More information...
3.5km east of Glenlyon, and at an elevation of 610 metres, Big Shed Wines is a small, family owned and operated vineyard and winery on the main Daylesford-Malmsbury Road, a mere 10 minutes from Daylesford or 15 from Kyneton. The vineyard was established in 1999 with a planting of 5 acres of pinot noir. Other grape varieties are bought in, with the heavier red varieties coming from vineyards in Bendigo, Heathcote and the warmer end of the Macedon Ranges wine regions. Our first vintage was in 2000; the cellar door opened in 2001. We offer a large range of wines: an estate grown pinot noir and pinot rosé, a sparkling shiraz and a ‘Macedon’ sparkling pinot/chardonnay, chardonnay, shiraz, cabernet, merlot, a sweet wine and two fortifieds (the famous “Sticky Stuff”). We have won many medals and trophies for our wines, including ‘Best Wine in Show’ at the Kyneton Wine Show in 2007 and 2009. In 2005 we were awarded the Julian West Memorial Trophy for the best small winery at the Daylesford Wine Show. Our 2005 Reserve Shiraz was rated 93 by James Halliday, after the 2004 had won Winestate Magazine’s “world’s greatest shiraz” challenge $20-25 category. A cosy cellar door; friendly border collies; elegant Suffolk sheep; superb wines and great cellar door chat (with sometimes a poem or two thrown in) – what more could you want? Open 7 days: 10 am – 7pm in summer; 10am – 6pm in winter
