More information...

Forty Acre Wines, located in Woodend, Victoria, in the shadow of Mount Macedon, is blessed by a cool climate and scenic views.

Forty Acre Wines, simple philosophy is to make quality handcrafted wines with minimal intervention. This is achieved by only using the best quality grapes available from the region.

Rod Drysdale’s (wine maker) discovery of wine started in the late 80s, after studying and traveling in southern France where wine was a way of life. French restaurants are proud of the house wine they offer patrons, and they are passionate about their wine regions. On returning to Australia, Rod was disappointed with the quality of wine on offer, and sought to find and relive his French experience in Austalia.

After completing wine studies at BRIT under the respected winemaker Mal Stewart, Rod became a part-time apprentice at Big Shed Wines in central Victoria, under the tutelage of Dr Ken Jones, renowned Professor of Biotechnology & Genetics, previously from Edinburgh University.

Having established forty acre wines, Rod now makes quality handcrafted wine in his own right, using grapes sourced mainly from the Macedon Ranges.

Featured Wines:
Shiraz 2008, 2009: Grapes harvested from Willow Run Vineyard in Metcalf provide the basis for Shiraz that is rich and intense in colour, has well integrated acid and oak, firm tannins, tight structure and superb balance.  The complexity and style of the shiraz typifies quality red wines from this cool climate region.
